Patients from 🇮🇩
Treatment in Chengdu for patients from Indonesia
What is different for you, specifically — visas, flights, currency, insurance and the practical questions that come up before booking.
What Indonesia sends abroad, and where it goes
- The largest outbound flows are for cancer treatment, cardiac procedures, orthopaedic surgery and health screening. Malaysia and Singapore take most of it.
- Malaysian and Singaporean private hospitals are strong at high-volume, well-defined procedures. Where they are weaker is complex multidisciplinary oncology, rare disease, transplant, and advanced therapy such as CAR-T and proton irradiation.
- That gap is the reason to consider Chengdu: it is not a cheaper Malaysia, it is a different tier of hospital — a national referral centre with 5,000+ beds rather than a private hospital group.
Cost, in rupiah
- Indonesian patients overwhelmingly pay out of pocket, so the number that matters is the total in rupiah, not a percentage.
- 待填:本币参考价格换算 —— 需按当日汇率把各术式价格换算为 IDR,并注明汇率日期
- As a starting point, our published reference ranges in USD are on the cost guide. Add roughly 待填:住宿与生活成本估算 —— 医院附近住宿按周计 for accommodation near the hospital, which is where Chengdu is far cheaper than Singapore.
Visa: this is where you must read carefully
- Indonesia is on China's unilateral visa-free list, so ordinary entry for up to 30 days is available — for business, tourism, family visits, exchange and transit.
- Medical treatment is not a permitted purpose. A trip whose main purpose is treatment needs an M visa, normally supported by an invitation letter from the treating hospital, which we help prepare.
- A short consultation, a check-up or imaging can legitimately sit inside an ordinary visit. We will tell you honestly which side of the line your case falls on before you book.
Flights
- Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (TFU) has direct services to several Southeast Asian cities, but 待填:成都—印尼直飞航线与班次 —— 需核实当前航司与时刻.
- Most Indonesian patients connect through Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Guangzhou. Allow a full day of travel each way and do not schedule a consultation for the day you land.
Language and accompaniment
- English is spoken inside the international department and rarely outside it — the pharmacy, the billing window and the ward are Chinese-only.
- A bilingual coordinator accompanies you through registration, consultation, imaging, admission and discharge. Interpretation is included in our service, not billed per hour.
- 待填:印尼语口译资源 —— 是否有印尼语医疗口译,需确认
Paying from Indonesia
- You pay the hospital directly. We never handle treatment funds, and no invoice of ours contains a hospital charge.
- Large inpatient bills are normally settled by bank transfer to the hospital's corporate account. Arrange the transfer route before you travel — an international transfer can take several days to clear.
- 待填:印尼保险与转介绍渠道 —— 当地保险公司是否覆盖中国治疗、有无转介绍医生网络,需逐一确认
Practical and cultural notes
- Halal food. Chengdu has halal restaurants, and the hospital can arrange halal meals with notice. Tell us before admission, not after.
- Prayer. Ask us to confirm prayer facilities at the specific hospital you are attending rather than assuming.
- Family. Indonesian patients usually travel with family. Accommodation near the hospital campus is affordable enough to house two or three people, which is not true in Singapore.
What we do not claim
- We have not verified the number of Indonesian patients we have handled, because we are early — 待填:印尼患者服务案例 —— 需首位患者书面同意后补充.
- We cannot promise an outcome, a flight date, a visa approval, or a claim payment. We can tell you whether China is a sensible answer for your case, and we will say so when it is not.
Questions from Indonesia
Is China cheaper than Malaysia for Indonesians?
For routine procedures, no — Malaysian private hospitals are close, well established and often cheaper once flights and accommodation are counted. For complex work the comparison changes: a national referral hospital in Chengdu performs cardiac, transplant and complex oncology cases at a volume Malaysian private hospitals do not, and a long admission costs less per day. The honest rule is that you go to China for the department, not for the discount. A useful test: ask both providers for the same written quotation naming the implant or device brand, the surgeon's annual volume in that procedure, and what the price excludes. The one that cannot produce it is the one to be careful with.
Can I enter China visa-free from Indonesia for treatment?
Indonesia is on China's unilateral visa-free list, so ordinary entry for up to 30 days is available — but the permitted purposes are business, tourism, family visits, exchange and transit. Medical treatment is not among them. If treatment is the main purpose of your trip, apply for an M visa with a hospital invitation letter, which we prepare. A short consultation or check-up can sit inside a normal visit; we will tell you which applies to you before you book anything.
Do I need to speak English or Mandarin?
Neither, in the sense that matters. Inside the international department English is spoken; outside it — the pharmacy, the cashier, the ward — it is Chinese only. A bilingual coordinator accompanies you through registration, consultation, imaging, admission and discharge, and the interpretation is included in our service rather than billed hourly. Whether we can provide Indonesian-language medical interpretation is a separate question that we confirm per case. For consent discussions and post-operative instructions we use a coordinator rather than relying on the patient's own English, because those are the conversations where a misunderstanding becomes a safety problem.
How do I pay, and will my Indonesian insurance cover it?
You pay the hospital directly. We never handle treatment funds, and no invoice of ours ever contains a hospital charge. Large inpatient bills are normally settled by bank transfer to the hospital's corporate account — set that route up before you travel, because an international transfer can take days. Whether a particular Indonesian insurer covers treatment in China is something we confirm with the hospital per policy: country-level cover does not put a specific hospital in network, and no one here can promise a claim will be paid.
